Local rules

What a distributor in China needs

The Chinese split, on by default

The special fund (5%) and VAT with surcharges (3.3%) come off the gross first. You can set your own rates.

Film side share preset

A preset fills the usual 43% film side share of the split box office as a starting point. Your contract decides.

Public screening licence

China has no age rating, so each film keeps its public screening licence number. Your company keeps its film distribution licence number.

Tax numbers checked

Your unified social credit code and your payers' codes are checked with their check digits.

Settlement in China

The split, worked out per cinema

DISTmio applies the Chinese split to every booking in China: the special fund and taxes come off the gross, then your share of the split box office.

  • Your own fund and tax rates if needed
  • Missing gross flagged, never counted as zero
  • Rent VAT of 6% on your invoices

Questions

China: common questions

Can we change the split rates?

Yes. The special fund and tax rates are yours to set, and contracts that work differently can use your ordinary terms.
